MS. Treasurer Lynn Fitch and College Savings
Mississippi announced the next opportunity for Mississippi residents to win
MACS (Mississippi Affordable College Savings) scholarships, at the MHSAA State
Football Championships in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on December 6 and 7, 2019.
“Every dollar saved is a dollar less that you may have to borrow to
help your children get a college degree,” said
Treasurer Fitch, Chair of the College Savings Mississippi Board. “We are pleased to be able to offer
scholarship opportunities throughout the year to help Mississippians save for
their children’s future. These events
are also great opportunities to remind people that it is never too early or too
late to save for the future.”
MACS is one of two State-sponsored college savings plans that offer
tax advantages to help families stretch their savings dollars. MACS accounts can be used for tuition,
mandatory fees, some room and board, books, and even laptops and
technology. Since January 1, 2018, MACS
can also be used to help pay tuition at private and religious K-12 schools.
College Savings Mississippi is the official halftime sponsor for
all six of the MHSAA football championship games and will host a tuition toss
during each halftime. The winner of each
will take home a $529 MACS scholarship.
During Treasurer Fitch’s tenure, College Savings Mississippi has
distributed more than $120,000 in these scholarships to Mississippi students.
